Firemen use JCB to battle Flint paper mill blaze

The KImberly-Clark factory in Flint 

FIRE engulfed 200 tons of paper in a four-hour blaze at the Kimberly-Clark mill in Flint.

More than 25 firefighters battled the flames at Aber Park Industrial Estate yesterday.

The emergency call was received at 12.38am and crews spent four hours tackling the blaze.

Fire crews from Flint, Holywell, Deeside and Mold used a JCB to get the blazing paper out of the building.

They used main jets, hose reels and breathing apparatus to douse the flames.

North Wales Fire and Rescue service said the fire had started when hot ember from production machinery set fire to recycling paper in a skip.

A spokesman for Kimberly Clark said: “I can confirm there was a fire at our Flint facility in the early hours.

“No one was hurt, the fire was contained and no damage sustained.

“The fire started at approximately 1am in our loose broke yard – the annex area where waste material is stored.

“The site team followed procedure, the facility was evacuated and the sprinkler system was activated. Local fire services attended the scene.

“There was no major disruption to production. After a mopping-up operation, production has been resumed.”
