The volunteer-run Audlem Lass missed out on the Recreation and Tourism Award at a ceremony in Birmingham.

It lost out to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal celebrations marking 200 years of England’s longest man-made waterway.

Joe Hoyles, from the Audlem Lass team, said: “It’s quite an achievement as there was some really serious competition.”

The awards recognise the dedication of volunteers on the canals of the country.

The Audlem Lass is based at Overwater Marina and travels on the Shropshire Union Canal.
