ALDERFORD Lake was awash with the colour purple as the Whitchurch Relay for Life for Cancer Research UK was a huge success for the fifth year running.

Hundreds of people were at the Whitchurch landmark for the 24-hour event which celebrated and commemorated those who have beaten cancer and those lost to the disease.

The event opened at 11am on Saturday with special guests and global cancer survivors joining Whitchurch residents to tell their tales.

Each team brought their own banners to show their support for the relay, with people of all ages taking to the walk around the lake.

Organisers praised the atmosphere generated by everyone who took part on the Saturday and Sunday, as well as the hundreds who visited the site to give their support and enjoy the entertainment.

There were plenty of pooches on show for the dog shows and the ‘Bake-off’ generated some fierce competition.

The organisers are looking to beat last year’s total of £36,094.67.
