Volunteers at Whitchurch’s Foodbank have admitted they are overwhelmed by the generosity of Tesco customers after a recent collection.
The store, in White Lion Meadow, held a collection from Thursday, November 30 to Saturday, December 2 as part of an annual three-day national food collection at Tesco stores.
The event was organised by Trussell Trust, in conjunction with Tesco, who supports a network of more than 400 Foodbanks throughout the UK.
During the three-day collection Foodbank volunteers, supported by Tesco staff, offered customers a food list indicating the items particularly needed and the customers of the store responded with an amazing total of 702.8kgs.
Alan Scutt, chair of Whitchurch Foodbank, said: “On behalf of the Trustees, the management team, our volunteers and particularly our clients, we want to say a huge thank you to all the people that gave so generously.
“Your willingness to help those in need is heart-warming. Through the generosity of others we are also able to provide clients with a special Christmas Bag of seasonal treats.
“Plus, we have received a large number of new toys which we are then able to pass on to families in order to make their Christmas just a little bit special.
“It is so encouraging to see so many with a heart for others less fortunate than themselves.”
