Plans to build up to five homes in Prees will not have a decision until next year.
Shropshire Council planning officers, in conjunction with the lead members of the North Shropshire Planning Committee, have decided to defer the application at its December meeting which takes place on Tuesday.
They say this is because more information is required.
The proposal would see land off Shrewsbury Street developed but no details of the size of the properties has been given.
However, members will be asked to make a decision on variation plans for a cafe at Hadley Farm in Wrexham Road, Whitchurch when they meet next week.
The committee has to make the decision as the applicant is chairman, Councillor Paul Wynn; however he cannot take part in the proceedings.
It has been recommended for approval.
