After proving to be a huge success in 2017, the Whitchurch 10k race is returning to the town once more next year.

The event, organised by Sir John Talbot’s School, in Tilstock Road, will again be sponsored by Grocontinental and will take place on Sunday, April 8 around Whitchurch.

The school’s headteacher David O’Toole was delighted to see the event confirmed for 2018 after it raised more than £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer last time out.

“The warm reception and level of support for Whitchurch’s first 10k run was astounding from our sponsors, runners, volunteers and the wider community,” he said.

“We are delighted to be underway with preparations to cement the Whitchurch 10k in the race calendar for 2018 and welcome wider support in making this happen.

“We have recently received news the event has been nominated for two national Running Awards, a true tribute to the area and race organisers.

“I do hope you will join us in 2018 and I look forward to seeing you on race day.”

In April more than 550 runners participated in the inaugural road race starting and finishing at the school and taking competitors on a route around the historic market town, showcasing shops, parks and local amenities.

Organisers are now hoping the event will welcome more than 600 entries in 2018 and raise further funds for its chosen charity partner.

Meanwhile, race organiser Hayley Alldridge said to be nominated for two awards – Best Newcomer and Best 10k event in the West Midlands – is above any expectations.

She added: “I believe it reflects the true passion, commitment and support we have gained in hosting the 10k event in Whitchurch.

“To receive an award would be the icing on the cake and we urge you to cast your vote and put the Whitchurch 10k on the runners’ map.

“Voting couldn’t be any simpler and is free and quick to do just visit therunningawards.com”
