A leading member of Whitchurch’s British Legion branch will have the honour of carrying the town’s standard at London’s Albert Hall on Saturday.

Rose Snell, a prominent figure at the town’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations, will travel to the famous venue to take part in the Festival of Remembrance.

Mrs Snell will then travel back to the town to be present at Sunday’s event at the Cenotaph in Station Road, according to fellow Legion member, and former President, Jill Hutchinson Smith.

“The Whitchurch standard will be carried by Rose at the Albert Hall during the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday,” she said.

“The last time our standard was used in London, it was carried by Len Overton in the mid-1960s.

“It’s a great honour to take part and it’s an event that the Queen has always attended. Our fallen from the two world wars are honoured and remembered by a military display and a drumhead service.

“After that, thousands and thousands of poppies are going to be released.

“Mrs Snell will then drive back from the Festival to be present at Whitchurch Cenotaph on Sunday for a 10am start and a 10.45am service.”

Anyone wishing to pay their respects on Sunday can do so at the Cenotaph.
