The fundraising spirit in the young is well and truly in place in one south Cheshire village.

The 1st Tilston Brownies and Guides held a coffee evening for the Macmillan Coffee Appeal on Monday, October 2.

The Brownies made invitations and on the evening the Guides manned the stalls while Brownies who were working for their Hostess badge helped out in the kitchen and cleared tables.

Snowy Owl Helen Roberts admitted the volume of support for the girls was surprising, but most welcome.

She said: “We are very grateful to local businesses and people who very generously gave prizes for both the raffle and tombola.

“The girls’ parents were brilliant with prizes and also the wonderful cakes that they brought on the night – without them this event couldn’t have gone ahead.

“We were surprised when we opened the doors and had a queue to come in and people continued to come.

“Thank you everyone for your wonderful support.

“We’d like to thank everyone involved and to let you know we made an amazing £800.

“Thank you everyone involved – a wonderful effort by everyone.”
