The bid to re-launch Whitchurch’s Friday Market will be given a boost with plans to take part in the national ‘British Food Fortnight’.
The event, which runs from September 23 until October 8, is designed to run in conjunction with the celebration of Harvest Festival and celebrates the best of British food and drinkc
Centre manager, Zoe Dean, is hoping the event will encourage many stallholders who specialise in homemade goods to set up in the town.
“We are hoping to link the national event to our Friday market,” she said.
“We want to try and encourage as many homemade, homegrown and home-produced artisans to join us in the market over the two Fridays of Food Fortnight to showcase.
“If you enjoy your trial at our market you may wish to speak to us about extending to a weekly slot.
“Our market is a morning market which is held both inside and outside the Civic Centre and Market Hall every Friday.
“Help us to celebrate all that is great about ‘British Food and Drink’. Our market charging rates are very competitive – £6 per 6ft table.
“Help us to re-launch our market by celebrating the best of British food. A number of exciting local artisans have already signed up to take part and join our market for these two weeks.
“We hope that holding the event will encourage more stallholders to join us.”
British Food Fortnight is supported by lots of famous faces behind the campaign including Raymond Blanc OBE and Liz Earle OBE.
The National Association of British Markets (NABMA) is fully behind this initiative and will promote what different organisations are doing.
