IT'S BEEN a mixed bag of results for Whitchurch Alport in the past seven days.
Wednesday night’s Shropshire FA Cup quarter-final at Shrewsbury Sports Village was an enthralling encounter, which Alport won 5-4 on penalties after the sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after 120 minutes of football.
They kept their nerve to despatch all five kicks, with keeper Will Hopkins netting the pressure penalty at four apiece.
In the last four Alport will face either AFC Bridgnorth or Wem Town.
But on Saturday, only 10 players turned up for the trip to Chadderton and despite another heroic performance, they lost 2-0. Alport finished the match with nine men after Danny Jarratt was sent off.
Going into Saturday’s game, JJ Bailey and Martin Chesters were both casualties of the midweek victory, Liam Challenor and Josh Rowley have long-term injuries, but an incredible six players were unavailable and two didn’t even bother to turn up.
