Princess Alexandra returned to Lyneal Trust in Ellesmere 30 years after her last visit.
This time round she boarded the new specially designed narrowboat for people with disabilities, unveiled a plaque and talked to frequent users of the boats at the Trust.
She took her time to greet everyone and even though it didn’t stop raining while she was there, there were smiles and enjoyment from all present.
Peter Wright, head of operations at Lyneal Trust said: “This boat has been made with the assistance of professional physiotherapists, and has many features which make it very special.
“For example the interior is lighter towards the top of the boat to help people who are partially sighted and there is a recliner on board for people who suffer from fatigue and need to sleep on the trip.”
Locals who gathered on the opposite side of the canal to catch a glimpse of the Princess were excited to see that she had made her second visit to the Trust.
Volunteer, Jo Hartley, said: “It is lovely to see Princess Alexandra come back after launching The Shropshire Lass in July 1987.
“This boat is relaxing and very popular with families who have disabled children or parents.”
