A dozen students were treated for minor injuries after two school buses crashed near Wem.

West Mercia Police have confirmed that a dozen students were on board were on board when two school buses crashed on the B5476 near Wem yesterday (May 7).

The crash left the road closed for several hours while emergency services attended the scene.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “We received a call around 3.50pm yesterday afternoon (7 May) with a report of a collision on the B5476 between Shrewsbury and Wem.

“Officers attended the incident to find two school buses involved in the collision.

“Police remained at the scene to assist other emergency services and traffic.”

OTHER NEWS: 

West Midlands Ambulance service were also in attendance at the scene and confirmed there were a dozen people on board the vehicles but that thankfully no one was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving two buses on the B5476 near Wem at 4.04pm, one ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

“In total we assessed 12 patients, all of whom were able to be discharged at the scene.”

Thomas Adams confirmed the crash involved a number of their pupils and said in a statement that "two Lakeside school buses were involved in an RTC after school on the B5476.

"The majority of children have now left the scene of the accident and were home bound. 12 students remained and were being triaged by the ambulance service as a precaution.

"Headteacher, Mr Cooper, along with four staff were at the scene supporting students. Lakeside Coaches transferred the remaining children home. There were no serious injuries."

Fire teams were also in attendance at the crash and made the scene safe.

A spokesperson for Shropshire fire and Rescue said: “At 4.01pm on Tuesday, May 7, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control received a call reporting that a Road Traffic Collision had taken place in Wem.

“Three fire appliances were mobilised from Shrewsbury and Wem. Operations and Principal officers were in attendance.

“Crews used the 9/10.5m ladder to deal with the incident.

“Also at the scene of the incident were the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.

“The road traffic collision involved two buses. Crews made both vehicles safe and assisted West Midlands Ambulance Service.”
