Emergency services were scrambled into action after two buses crashed near Wem, police have confirmed.

Teams from the West Midlands Ambulance Service, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called into action after two buses crashed on the B5476 yesterday (May 7).

The crash left the road closed for several hours as ambulance teams helped those involved and fire teams made the vehicles safe.

In a post online yesterday, West Mercia Police said: “We are currently dealing with an RTC on the B5476 between Shrewsbury and Wem. Please find alternative routes while we deal.”

A spokesperson for Shropshire fire and Rescue said: “At 4.01pm on Tuesday, May 7, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service Fire Control received a call reporting that a Road Traffic Collision had taken place in Wem.

“Three fire appliances were mobilised from Shrewsbury and Wem. Operations and Principal officers were in attendance.

“Crews used the 9/10.5m ladder to deal with the incident.

“Also at the scene of the incident were: the Land Ambulance Service and the Police.

“Road traffic collision involving two buses. Crews making both vehicles safe and assisting West Midlands Ambulance Service.”

The condition of those involved is unclear at this time.
